Sherlock Fic: A Couple of Flakes

Guess the crossover!   (Also includes inside joke for those who follow Would I Lie to You? religiously.  Which ought to be all of you.  Just sayin'.)  Also, thank you [livejournal.com profile] capt_facepalm for the invaluable titling help.  AKA:  Giving me a title.

A Couple of Flakes

“Flake, please.”

One of the men in the van pulled out an ice cream cone, while the other leaned against the back wall and closed his eyes.

“You wouldn’t…” The customer lowered his voice conspiratorially.  “You wouldn’t give me… two flakes, would you?”

The man serving the ice cream nodded his head, but the other said “No!” quite loudly without opening his eyes.  The first just rolled his eyes and picked up another flake... and cursed when it snapped in half.

The customer grinned.  “Having an ice cream van must be brilliant!  Do you drive all over the country?”

“I don’t know, we only just bought it.”

“BRILLIANT!  We almost bought an ice cream van once.  I would love to be in a van with ice cream all the—”

“ARTHUR!”

“Sorry chaps, that’s my mum.  Thanks!”  And he dashed off.  “COMING, MUM!”

“Well, that’s three customers now.  Enough data yet?”

“BORED!”

But, but . . . how did Arthur not catch that Sherlock looked a lot like Martin? :-)

Seriously, your story is BRILLIANT!

[identity profile] goldvermilion87.livejournal.com 2012-07-07 03:09 am (UTC)(link)
Arthur sees, but he never observes.

:-P And thank you.

[identity profile] litlover12.livejournal.com 2012-07-07 03:22 am (UTC)(link)
Yes, I guess that's true!

[identity profile] litlover12.livejournal.com 2012-07-07 03:46 am (UTC)(link)
Also, "BORED!" now makes me think of Douglas as well as Sherlock. I would love to see those two being bored together -- that would be EPIC boredom.

[identity profile] goldvermilion87.livejournal.com 2012-07-07 04:30 am (UTC)(link)
Haha!

Now I want to see it, too.

Actually, that would be quite the power struggle, generally.

(labourslamp and I have this in hand for our crossover. :-P )

[identity profile] litlover12.livejournal.com 2012-07-07 01:32 pm (UTC)(link)
HUGE power struggle. It would make "Star Wars" look like a spat in the kiddie pool.

[identity profile] impulsereader.livejournal.com 2012-07-07 04:44 am (UTC)(link)
hee! I guessed it, and I'm listening to CP right now!

Funny, really, awesomely, brilliantly, funny!

[identity profile] goldvermilion87.livejournal.com 2012-07-07 04:46 am (UTC)(link)
I'm listening to CP right now, too! (well, I paused it to write this, because I can't multi-task)

And thank you! I'm glad you enjoyed it. :-)

I like to let it play in the background instead of music - while I'm catching up on LJ - and call it research for Writing British. I think my brain picks up on the language and lilt and slang terms this way. So I'm not really doing anything as advanced as multitasking, just conducting an ongoing experiment in becoming British by osmosis.

[identity profile] goldvermilion87.livejournal.com 2012-07-07 04:59 am (UTC)(link)
I have started using British terms instead of American ones on occasion completely and utterly by mistake.

I've been confused about spelling since grade school due to reading too many UK published books... It just keeps getting worse.

[identity profile] impulsereader.livejournal.com 2012-07-07 05:18 am (UTC)(link)
When I first started the journal and the fic writing I was firmly in the camp: I am American and therefore I am not allowed to whinge. But since then I feel I'm contributing some fairly decent fic and so have eased my attitude quite a lot, since overworking my Britpicker seems unwise. And so my quest continues. Perhaps one day I will even move and take it on full time.

[identity profile] goldvermilion87.livejournal.com 2012-07-07 05:20 am (UTC)(link)
I am 100% determined to move to England. In all seriousness. But I've been determined to do that since I was 10. :-)

I ended up listening to "Douz" and half of "Edinburgh" last night before going to sleep. Power of suggestion!

[identity profile] goldvermilion87.livejournal.com 2012-07-08 02:47 am (UTC)(link)
Power of AWESOME suggestion!

*SNORT* Oh, I can see this all to well. VERY nicely done! :D

The fic: "Having an ice cream van must be brilliant!"
Me: "...Arthur? Arthur!" *giggles*

To steal a quote, this fic, in a word....

is BRILLIANT! ;)

[identity profile] goldvermilion87.livejournal.com 2012-07-07 10:38 pm (UTC)(link)
:-D

Thank you!!!!!

[identity profile] eanor.livejournal.com 2012-07-07 07:41 am (UTC)(link)
Hihi, that was really funny! ^^ But how can Sherlock be bored when he could have ARTHUR to study?? And I'm sure Arthur would find all his deductions brilliant. :-P
Very nice crossover and so much fun one can have with an ice cream van... ^^

PS: Did you get my message?

[identity profile] goldvermilion87.livejournal.com 2012-07-07 10:42 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, I'm not sure that Arthur would interest Sherlock that much. He's not all that enigmatic. :-P

PS: Yes, and I replied. So sorry I lost track of it!

[identity profile] bwblack.livejournal.com 2012-07-07 11:55 am (UTC)(link)
Sherlock's world's shortest ice cream truck owner. Love it. Plus cabin pressure!

[identity profile] goldvermilion87.livejournal.com 2012-07-07 10:47 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah... Watching little brats cover their faces is frozen sugar?

:-P

(AND CABIN PRESSURE!)

[identity profile] 2ndskin.livejournal.com 2012-07-07 01:13 pm (UTC)(link)
This is great comedy in so few words--I love it--especially John hoping that three customers is plenty, because he's the one obviously doing all the work! And btw, I know of CP but have never heard it, so just wanted you to know the comedy works for the uninitiated as well!

[identity profile] goldvermilion87.livejournal.com 2012-07-07 10:48 pm (UTC)(link)
Poor Poor John. :-P

Thank you so much! I'm glad you liked it, and I'm glad it works even to someone who hasn't heard Cabin Pressure.

That being said, WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR?!?!?!?!?!?! IT'S THE BEST THING EVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

[identity profile] dimity-blue.livejournal.com 2012-07-08 07:36 pm (UTC)(link)
LOL! I love how conspiratorial Arthur is over asking for two flakes. And I love that John's doing all the work (and handing out extra flakes).

Such a cute story. Thanks for the laugh. :oD

[identity profile] yndigot.livejournal.com 2012-08-07 09:47 pm (UTC)(link)
I love Sherlock, Cabin Pressure, and Would I Lie to You? ... so this made me happy and warm and fuzzy.

[identity profile] goldvermilion87.livejournal.com 2012-08-07 11:05 pm (UTC)(link)
ME TOO! :-D

Thanks for the review!
