...that I heard this weekend.
First, a new song by Miranda Lambert. It cracked me up:
Quick! How many female country singers can you identify?
Second, a beautiful new song from Carrie Underwood. It made me cry. I hope I can sing this to my mom one day!:
And that's her real hubbie. Aww.
And finally, one of my favorite Christian contemporary songs. So true. So creative. And so Beatles-y (Hehe. I really think it is an excellent example of a well-written Christian song. The words remind me of something by one of the Metaphysical poets. Donne TOTALLY would have written something like that...in fact, I bet if I checked through the Holy Sonnets I'd find one with that conceit...hmm...should check. And Beatles-y-ness is the highest compliment I can give modern music. :-) )
EDIT: Closest Donne poem I could find is "Batter my heart" which is significantly more shocking than "So long, self" but has a sort of similar conceit:
Batter my heart, three-person'd God ; for you
As yet but knock ; breathe, shine, and seek to mend ;
That I may rise, and stand, o'erthrow me, and bend
Your force, to break, blow, burn, and make me new.
I, like an usurp'd town, to another due,
Labour to admit you, but O, to no end.
Reason, your viceroy in me, me should defend,
But is captived, and proves weak or untrue.
Yet dearly I love you, and would be loved fain,
But am betroth'd unto your enemy ;
Divorce me, untie, or break that knot again,
Take me to you, imprison me, for I,
Except you enthrall me, never shall be free,
Nor ever chaste, except you ravish me.
