Amidst the glut of NC-17 Sherlock/John fic that is being (inexplicably) produced in response to the first two episodes of Series 2, comes this gem:

I have discovered through reading some recent recs and scouring some fic exchanges, that the kinds of Sherlock fics I like are dark-ish fics, often focusing on more minor characters.  Is it just my anti-fluffiness?  Or am I a morbid person?

I have no idea, but if you know of a well-written Sherlock fic that fits this description, rec it to me!  (because I don't know how to discover those via holmesian_news.)

My friend [livejournal.com profile] capt_facepalm writes the BEST crack!  Go and check out this BBC!verse Christmassy crack.  It's short and sweet and pretty much hilarious.

I don't usually rec... anything.  In fact, I'm much more of a fanfic writer than reader at this point, so I don't read vast quantities of Sherlock fic.  However, I read one story today that I really wanted to rec, and I remembered two others that I thought were exceptional, so I figured I'd make a post of it.

First off, the fic I read today.  I was recced by two other people in my f-list, and for good reason.  It's Mike Stamford backstory -- funny and creative:

Beautiful Ideas by [livejournal.com profile] metisket

Second, a fic I first saw a few days ago.  It's on the darker side of things, and hints at some mature topics, but I thought it was a great character study of Molly.  It managed to avoid both making Molly an absolute farce and making her a strong, determined, mature woman.  (I've seen both in fandom, and the former is just unfair, and the latter... well... really?)

A Sort of Fairytale (currently anonymous -- at [livejournal.com profile] holmestice.)

Third, possibly the best Sherlock fic I've read:

Hardly a Challenge by cerise

And then, I was given a very well-written crossover fic in the [livejournal.com profile] holmestice exchange.  It is exactly the sort of thing I like to read.  (Take that endorsement as you wish.  :-D ):

When Snow Falls in London

Happy Reading!

If you like Romantic Comedies, I highly recommend "Letters to Juliet."  My mom and I watched it together over Thanksgiving break, and we agreed that it went along with "You've Got Mail" in the BEST ROMANTIC COMEDIES EVER! category.
