Day Thirteen--Your favorite Villain
Hmm.....
I think if I had to choose, it would be Stapleton. Stapleton seems so nice and cheery in the beginning of HOUN, and then he turns out to be SERIOUSLY CREEPY.
It's funny, I don't think too much about the villains in the Sherlock Holmes canon. I guess for me the interesting conflict (or sometimes frustrating lack thereof) is Holmes vs. himself. I've always been interested, for example, in the fact that he would never let Watson really know that he cared about him. I remember discussing the idea of love making someoe vulnerable with my mom, when I asked her WHY wouldn't Holmes be willing to do that? I was already 13 at the time, but I'm sorry to say that I had never really thought too hard about it. Since then, I've thought more about love and selfishness vs. selflessness, etc.. And seeing Holmes... well... mostly fail at being a good friend... that's what makes the stories interesting. The cases are a vehicle. That's probably wrong of me, but what can I say?
[Also another reason why I like Sherlock--see the final scene of TGG! :-P ]
