It's an OOOOOLD school adventure game about a guy who wants to be a pirate. Since you're not supposed to, you know, sword fight, you learn how to by learning matched pairs of insult/retorts--thus drawing off the great Cyrano de Bergerac/Errol Flynn/buckle-some-swash tradition of fencing quips intended to get your opponent just off guard.

And the best part was that they got Orson Scott Card to write all of them.

The original insult was "There are no words for how stupid you are."

I was thinking about Cyrano last week, because I had a one hour long, very heavy nosebleed, and "when it bleeds--the Red Sea!" kept running through my head. (punctuated with "I MUST HAVE A BRAIN ANEURISM! I'M GONNA DIE")

Obviously, I like dramatics.

I LOVE LOVE LOVE Cyrano, though. :-)

Well, if you have a brain aneurysm, that gives you motivation to be a serial killer (yes, I did manage to watch Sherlock online on PBS).

And Cyrano is amazing. Would that all men had his wit and charm.

Hehe. Oddly enough, the reason I make that connection is from A Study in Scarlet. Have you read the book? Because Watson diagnoses that cabbie in the book with an aneurysm after he has a really bad nosebleed when he's upset. (And I was crying when my nose started bleeding) That is just the way my mind works--something is wrong? Go to worst case scenario!

It probably was on my mind because of Sherlock, though. Did you like it? I'm guessing you didn't see the second and third episodes...the second is good, but not as good as the first. And the third! Well. You just have to see it. :-)

I like to think that if I were Roxanne I would not have been such an idiot. I obviously have no idea whether or not I would have been. BUT I AM IN LOVE WITH CYRANO!

Well, then, that's just more nose-thumbery. I read all of Holmes back in one summer in middle school, but that's been it for a while.

I haven't seen the second one because I'm trying to act my alignment and wait till PBS puts it online. So 2 will be up on All Saint's. Honestly, it's probably for the best that I wait; otherwise I'll end up spending all my time watching television instead of working.

I think we'd all like to think we would be smarter than Roxanne. But it's hard to say. I do comfort myself that Cyrano messed things up there, too, with waiting till it was too late to tell her anything.

Yeah. I refuse to steal things off the internet...but if I pre-order them on Amazon, (and believe me--Sherlock has been in my shopping cart for a loooooooong time. :-P) I don't feel bad about watching them before they actually come out. Maybe a bit of sophistry on my part? but the BBC and WGBH will get their money from me in two weeks. :-)

Yeah, I'm always torn about Cyrano. I feel like he had an overdeveloped sense of honor. But as misguided as it was, I cannot help but respect him for not betraying Christian, and trying to make Roxanne happy...

Besides, if it weren't so tragic, it probably wouldn't have done as well. :-P

Jefferson Hope was having nosebleeds when he was upset because he had an aortic aneurysm--a thoracic aortic aneurysm (http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/aortic-aneurysm/DS00017)

BTW, now that I think about it...nosebleeds are not even a symptom of thoracic aortic aneurysm...they CAN be a symptom of hypertension (high blood pressure)--so seems like Hope had hypertension in addition. (As I recall, he is described as red in the face, so...)

Nose bleeds would be a most unlikely symptom for a brain aneurysm...put your mind at rest ;)

Hehe. Believe, me, I knew it was not only silly, but most likely wong. And yet, while I sat wiht my friend preparing to drive to the ER because it just wouldn't stop, I couldn't help worrying. Hehe.
