101 word fic for Challenge 102 at [livejournal.com profile] great_tales.  I would like to credit [livejournal.com profile] capt_facepalm who DOUBLE DOG DARED me to write it.  Furthermore, while this idea came to me via Top Gear, I am sure this delightful fic by [livejournal.com profile] arnie1967 had something to do with the direction it took.  :-D

Captain Stall

“So… four times.”

Sherlock rolled his eyes.

“Sherlock?”

“You didn’t…”

“I finally parked it for you, and I didn’t stall four times.”

“Well, I’ve never reverse parked before.”

“You’ve never… didn’t someone teach you?”

Sherlock coughed.

“What?”

“Hmm?”

“Sherlock!”

“James May.”

“You had driving lessons from James May? How… is that why you hate Top Gear?”

Sherlock started texting.

“Sherlock… you didn’t learn from Top Gear, did you?”

“If you insist on watching that rubbish when I’m in the room I can hardly help observing.”

John snorted and opened the morning paper.

“Hang on! Sherlock, do you have a driving license?”

Hihi. Sherlock and driving are two things that always produce great comedic effects when put together! :-D

I agree.

I still think it's hilarious that he drove at all...

Sherlock and Top Gear--two great tastes that taste great together!

I am already imagining that with all the publicity the boys were garnering in ASiB, Top Gear would have surely invited them to be the Star(s) in a Reasonably Priced Car.

Thanks for this! :)

CLARKSON [in a very controlled voice]: So, how was driving with the Stig?
HOLMES [feet up and eyes closed]: And I don't see why all this publicity. Anyone with half a brain could see that he's a former Formula One driver who has stopped probably because of drinking problems, and has been coerced into coming here and wearing that ridiculous...
CLARKSON: That's it! I'm done with this [stomping away] Hammond, you're up!
HOLMES: [evil glare at Hammond]
HAMMOND: [deer in the headlights look] J-James?
MAY: Oh, I'll do it.
HOLMES: [smug face]
MAY: So, Sherlock, how was your experience driving the Ford Fiesta?
HOLMES: [sitting up] Well, James, it was pretty interesting...

Hee! Oh, that's wonderful!! But don't forget this bit:

CLARKSON: All right, who'd like to see Sherlock's lap?
WATSON: Me! ME!
HAMMOND: (more Bambi eyes) Uh...

At least he learned from May rather than either of the other two or they'd have been all over Dartmoor!!

Haha. Yes. Especially since he was driving a Land Rover. "Now we're going to find out if this car can drive up that Tor over there."

Hee! It is amazing that Sherlock can drive at all. Poor John, finding out that he never actually learned (from a teacher - not from TV). Of course, this is after John's been innocently sitting in the car with him.

Very, very cute fic. Thanks for sharing (and thank you for reccing my fic too!).

It really is amazing. (I've spent more time than entirely healthy wondering if a really observant person could figure it out just from Top Gear...) But John's been through worse. :-P

Thank you! I'm glad you enjoyed the fic. (I LOVE yours. I almost felt bad to have a Sherlock-without-license fic after reading it, because yours was so funny!)

No, no, nooo! Don't feel bad (or almost feel bad) - more fic is a good thing! Especially when it's cute, funny fic like yours. Write, write!

Ha! Lovely!

Though, incidentally, the only reason it was Sherlock driving and not John?

Martin Freeman doesn't have a license.

Glad you liked it.

I did know about the real life reason, but I think that in the story John MUST have a license... So I imagine that Sherlock took over just because he's a control freak. :-P
