Day Nineteen–The Scene That Made You Cry the Most
This is a funny story, actually.
I've known about Sherlock Holmes since I was very young. The Great Mouse Detective was my favorite Disney film for years. I'd definitely read various and sundry Holmes stories throughout my life. I bought the first volume of the complete Sherlock Holmes at a library book sale one summer before middle school, I started reading and I was HOOKED! (I think this is because all my favorite books have been friendship-centric ones, but no matter the reason I loved the books). I talked about it to one of my teachers who, along with his wife was a good frend of the family and personal friend, and he told his wife who loaned volume 2 to me.
Well, I was almost done with volume 1, reading in the car, as I usually did, and I didn't have volume 2 with me. Volume 1 ends with "The Final Problem." I was a bit apprehensive at the title, but there was another volume.
BUT WHEN HOLMES DIED I STARTED BAWLING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! No twelve or thirteen year old should bawl so much over a book. My mom asked me what was the matter, and I told her, and she said (reasonably) that there was another volume.
"BUT MOOOM, it's written by Dr. Watson. It's called "Memoirs" It could all be stuff that happened before he died!"
"But Keb, I doubt that's what happened. I'm sure it's a trick or something."
"It's real. Holmes is dead! WAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHH!"
We got home not long after, and my mother was right.
Always listen to your mom, folks.
I felt a little silly about crying like that, but then, in my defense, I cry with characters, less than for characters. So, for example, I still cry when Sam thinks Frodo is dead because Sam is crying. I know full well what will actually happen.
Nowadays, the Holmes story that makes me cry is his final bow. But I explained that on Day One.
