Day Twenty-Nine–Your Favorite Adaptation Quotation

Another easy one.

My favorite quotation is:

John:  So why do you put up with him?
Lestrade:  Because I'm desperate, that's what.  And because Sherlock Holmes is a great man, and I think one day, if we're very very lucky, he might even be a good one.

I've said this a zillion times, but Arthur Conan Doyle just didn't get it, I don't think.  Great does not equal good.  ACD's Watson rarely asks himself or the reader if Holmes is good, because his being a genius is (apparently) enough.  And this has always frustrated me.

Moffat and Gatiss's adaptation is, to quote Sherlock (and I'm pretty sure Holmes... just can't remember where),  "finally asking the right questions."

Answers in the fall?  Here's hoping!

:-)
