I am envisioning this as post-Operating System, but technically it fits into the "Corruption" section.  The prompt was "Fraud"

Apostrophe

“Clearly you’ve just come from Number 10. You never get that smug look otherwise. And tell your PA that she should not have changed her perfume. Doesn’t suit her. But the locked room case – don’t pretend that it’s for my benefit. We know as well as you do that you need me, don’t we?”

He looked to his right. For an instant Mycroft wondered if he saw a tear. Then Sherlock continued.

“I’ll text you as soon as we’ve finished this case… If nothing better has come up by tomorrow morning I’ll send…”

Mycroft closed the door against the monologue.

Clever. I like writings where all the implications are not superficially apparent.

Thank you! I am always trying to be subtle... sometimes too subtle, but it's fun. I'm glad you liked it. :-)

Yep, I liked it. As Sherlock would say, "don't be boring." Your writing is not boring! Yea!

OUCH. That one tipped me over on the sad meter! =(

I work with the elderly, so I've definitely wondered idly how Holmes might experience senile dementia. I don't know if that's what you meant to depict in the Corruption section of Operating System, or in this, but that's how both bits strike me. Whether it's that or just plain debilitating grief, you've really touched my heart with Sherlock's inability to cope with John's death. Thanks for sharing!

I don't know why I envision the end of Sherlock's life so sadly, but I do. And yes, I am thinking of dementia of some sort. I'm only picturing him about 60. I don't know if that's old enough to be considered senile? (That might be a dumb question -- medicine isn't my thing.)

Certainly Sherlock's inability to cope is there. I picture Sherlock (you might even consider this the "thesis" of Operating System) as the king of denial/self-deception. So I think that is aiding and abetting his dementia.
