Day Fifteen--Favorite Holmes-related lj comm

This one is a bit tricky.  What I like about lj, as opposed to a fanfiction archive, is that there is community of a sort, and I have online friends, who are obviously different in certain ways from real life friends but who are genuinely friends.  (You know who you are.  ;-)  ) .  I met them on lj via comms in which we had common interests.  But to me the comms are like the list of interest rather than the commmunity itself, generally speaking.  So I am not really attached to comms.  They are just elements of my f-list, if that makes sense...

A  year or so ago I would have named [livejournal.com profile] watsons_woes as my favorite comm, even though I would've been slightly embarrassed to admit it, because I disapprove of hurt/comfort on principle, but it's like sugary candy, and I was indulging my sweet tooth a bit too much.  It actually felt like a community.  However, for my part, I (fortunately) got a belly ache, and on the comm's part, it exploded numbers-wise and got quite overrun with slash fic, which is not my thing, and lost pretty much any sense of community, as far as I can tell, and is currently in a bit of a lull--no idea if it's a temporary or permanent one. I do have to say, though, that I "met" one of my best online friends there, and I actually discovered lj through it, because many fanfiction.net stories that I enjoyed included notes mentioning it, so I searched the internet to find out what it was.

BBC is the fandom I most enjoy writing in, and I believe that posting to [livejournal.com profile] sherlockbbc is how I draw in an audience (though I don't know how big or small that audience is.  I wish there were hit counts on lj! )  But since, as I have said, slash is not my thing, I only really read one out of fifteen posts on the comm.  Still, it is the place where all Sherlock-related stuff happens, so if you like the show and are interested in the fandom, it's definitely the place to start.

For utility, though, I'd go with [livejournal.com profile] holmesian_news .  I like seeing all the stories/art/news/etc. once a day in a list. That was I don't have to put really really busy comms (like [livejournal.com profile] sherlockbbc on my f-list.)

I really like the idea of [livejournal.com profile] meta_holmes  and find posts there interesting, but they are few and far between.

The most entertaining comm that I have ever been a member of is [livejournal.com profile] mycroftpoppins .  That had it's day and seems to be over.  And I fully expected that to happen, because it was a comm based on a (BRILLIANT!) cracky idea.  But for the few months that it was going strong, it was entertaining, very much a community, and just... well...  IT WAS MYCROFT POPPINS!

So, I guess if I have to choose a favorite Holmes related comm, I'll have to go with...

DRUMROLL PLEASE!

[livejournal.com profile] mycroftpoppins .

YAY!

I second your YAY! for mycroftpoppins!

Sherlockiangirl just yesterday posted a short entry just to say she's alive and school/teaching is eating her life. Perhaps this summer when/if her RL calms down (and there's new series material!) mycroftpoppins will revitalize.

Yes, I saw that. :-) If she posts more, I'll be happy, but I'm content with it being over, because I think it's easy to keep a joke going too long, and then you end up with a bad taste in your mouth. mycroftpoppins ended on a high note, I thought, so if we never get to see any more, I won't fuss.

(But again... if any more gets published, I'm sure I'll laugh just as hard.)

Hehe, we seem to agree on our view of comms...
I wonder if it is possible for a community to be popular, and yet community-like...

I'm pretty sure that the answer is "no." But since I have lj friends, I have lj community, so I'm not stressed about it. :-)

Yes, that's community enough, isn't it?! :-)
I am certainly glad I have had the opportunity to meet so many brilliant and friendly people. :-)
